Question: Spathiphyllum never bloomed

Good morning…
I have in my apartment a delicious spatifillo plant, it is luxuriant with leaves, but it has never bloomed. How come? Perhaps because the plant is "relatively" young ?? It has four years!

Answer: Spathiphyllum never bloomed

Dear Francesca,
the spatifillo is a plant that blooms every year, starting from when it is of the right dimensions to produce flowers, or when you buy it in the nursery; It is indeed very difficult to find in the nursery for sale a plant not yet old enough to be able to bring flowers.
So the reason your plant has not yet bloomed is to be found in the cultivation conditions, which may not be ideal, even though the plant is healthy.
These plants need good lighting, that is they love places far from direct sunlight, but very bright, and if placed in the dark, or in areas of the home that are not very bright, they tend not to bloom.
From March to September the spatifilli are fertilized, with fertilizer specific for flowering plants, every 12-15 days; always choose a fertilizer that contains, in addition to nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, also microelements, which are very useful for the health of the plant.
Every two or three years repot the spatifillo, moving it into a slightly larger pot than the previous one, and changing all the soil with fresh substrate. If the repotting is done by placing the plant in an excessively large container, your spatifillo will continue to produce only new leaves, until you have completely filled the entire vase.
These plants in nature develop in the large rainfalls, therefore, in order to develop better, they need a warm and humid climate; therefore even in winter they love daytime highs above 20 ° C, and a high environmental humidity. This does not mean that you have to water them very often, it is always advisable to wait for the soil to dry slightly between two waterings. But to increase the humidity in the air around the plant, you will frequently need to vaporize it with demineralized water, and keep it away from sources of direct heat, which reduce environmental humidity, such as radiators, stoves, fireplaces. If your house is really very dry, place a humidifier next to the plant.
